ANDRÉ-HERBÉRT PEREZ

Internationally based photographer capturing moments on my Leica since 2020

A portrait is not made in the camera but on either side of it.

PORTRAIT OR NOT TO BE PORTRAIT?

I am an internationally based photographer whose practice began during the pandemic, when I invested in my first camera in 2020. What started with photographing friends quickly became a fascination with people — their presence, bodies, personalities and the ways they express themselves.

For me, photography is about more than making a beautiful image. I am drawn to the moments when something of a person reveals itself: a gesture, a look, a pose, a detail of the body, or an unexpected interaction with their surroundings.

Influenced by photographers including Peter Lindbergh, Irving Penn, Robert Mapplethorpe and Helmut Newton, my work has evolved from intimate portraits into a broader exploration of the human form, body art and individuality. Working primarily with natural light, I look for moments that feel spontaneous and authentic, finding beauty in character, texture and self-expression.

What began as a personal way of documenting the people around me has grown into an ongoing visual exploration of identity and the human form. Through my photographs, I invite the viewer to look beyond the image and closer at the person within it.
